Optimal Cholesterol Levels

Optimal cholesterol levels are  important in preventing the occurrence of heart disease or stroke, both of which can be life-threatening.  In order to avoid these problems, we need to maintain an appropriate ratio between good and total cholesterol.

Once you have figured out your cholesterol numbers, you will need to work with your doctor to identify the ideal cholesterol ratio for your body.

Your diet and not drugs should be your first line of defense in lowering your cholesterol levels.  You should do a combination of healthy diet and exercise as part of your strategy for prevention.

High blood pressure high cholesterol is one of the leading cause for death and disability among men and women around the world, with heart attacks the most prevalent form.

What Is The Optimal Ratio For Your Cholesterol

Include simple lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise, eating a heart-healthy diet - I'll be providing you with the proven foods to eat below - and probably taking cholesterol medications such as statins - hopefully as a last resort.

I was able to lower my cholesterol levels without taking any statin drugs. I did a combination of Aroma Life essential oil, diet and exercise. So I know it is possible to lower your cholesterol levels.

By doing all this, you will be well on your way to attaining the right cholesterol ratio.

When you lower your LDL cholesterol levels and increase your HDL cholesterol levels, you will be able to reduce your risk of suffering cardiovascular disease.

The Effects Of Good And Bad Cholesterol

Cholesterol is the fatty substance that occurs naturally in your blood.  It performs very important functions within your body as it aides in the formation of the structure of every single body cell.

High-density lipoprotein or HDL is good cholesterol.

The main advantage of this type of cholesterol is the fact that it works in carrying bad cholesterol back to the liver.  In this way, it allows for the cleansing of cholesterol from the bloodstream.

Low-density lipoprotein or LDL is bad cholesterol.

The higher the levels of LDL cholesterol in your body, the greater you are at risk of suffering a heart attack.  When the LDL cholesterol goes up, this can cause a build-up of excess cholesterol which then sticks to your artery walls, resulting in damage.

This build-up is known as plaque, which may lead to the hardening and narrowing of the arteries in a process referred to as atherosclerosis.

If the plaque becomes unstable, this may lead to the formation of a blood-clot that may suddenly block an artery.  This may in turn cause a heart attack or a stroke.

Total Cholesterol And How It Affects You

When your doctor checks your cholesterol levels, they will provide you with a number denoting the total cholesterol - one for the HDL level and the other for the LDL level.

The figure for the total cholesterol will be higher than the sum of the LDL and HDL numbers.   An acceptable HDL cholesterol level is a minimum of 40mg/dl, while optimal HDL levels should be higher than 60.

The optimal LDL cholesterol levels for the body are under 100mg/dl.

Either a high LDL number or a high HDL number will make your total cholesterol number high.  If your total cholesterol figure is high due to a high HDL number, this does not necessarily mean that your health is in danger.

However, if your total cholesterol figure is high due to a high LDL cholesterol level, it is important to consult your doctor about the potential health implications.

Your doctor will be able to advise you on the lifestyle changes to make in order to assist you in reducing your LDL cholesterol levels and obtaining optimal cholesterol levels.

Eating Your Way To Optimal Cholesterol Levels

There are scientific proof that a natural combination therapy,  and the use of a safe non-pharmacological alternative for lowering your cholesterol works.

Scientist have calculated that eating a daily combination of all these foods can reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease by as much as 76%.

Your diet works just as well as Statins in lowering LDL cholesterol.

Here are some simple, healthful food and exercise that gives you a safe and measurable cholesterol-lowering results in as little as three months time.

So get started on obtaining your optimal cholesterol levels.

  • Eat your Oatmeal. 1 cup daily provides you with 3 grams of beta-glucan.

  • A handful of almonds, say 30; daily provides you with the heart-healthy kind of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat.

  • Add two tablespoons of ground organic flaxseeds (aka Linseeds). Flaxseeds, also known as Linseeds, are packed with a host of nutrients.

  • Eat 1/2 cup of legumes (beans, peas, or lentis) daily. Read here on how to prevent the gassy feeling from eating beans and its many benefits.

Ideally it is best to eat all that is suggested daily, but nobody is perfect.  But including most of them daily or as often as possible will surely help you.  Good luck!
